Photorally contest at www.overdrive.fi
I have been hosting a photorally contest at "local" an American car forum since 2012. Idea is to take a photo at given time about subject that previous winner has given.
Car happenings calendar in Finland
I also update personal Google calendar where is dated almost all major an American car related happenings in Finland.
Car happening photo report
I started photographing cars at 2010 and I uploaded them to Finnish photo gallery website and linked them to all over the internet. Few years later I founded this website and it would have been too much of hassle to move all the already published photos to new site and update links, so I kept my old photo gallery.
Well it is that time of the year that show season starts the year and gather fellow car and bike enthusiastics from the cold and dark garages. I had a booth once again at the show and it was just a base for my gear. Had a brand new lens to try out and so far it has proven to be worth the money. It is Tamron SP 90 mm f/2.8 Di Macro VC USD. Paired with Nissin ring flash.
I know that my D7100 isn’t the best available tool for nighttime time lapse photography, but it is what I got. I shot few time lapses last night before it got dark and I thought why don’t I try what you can do with it.
I set my camera to shoot 400 frames, but as I had shooted few others time lapses before, it run out of battery after 155 frames. So this is what I got:
Just noticed that I didn’t make a post about Porvoo Cruising that was held at the last Saturday of the August.
So, I haven’t been there for two years now, well we did passed by an year ago when my wife had bought herself a used car and she wanted to get to know it better and we drove to Porvoo with couple of friends and later at the evening I noticed that there American cars going every directions and I checked calendar that I host at Google Calendar where I have gathered American car happenings in Finland. Sure enough there was Porvoo Cruising. But, to this year, couple of garage mates were going and I hopped in with them and we went. I sat on 1967 Chevrolet Camaro and had few beers along the ride.
As legistation of commerce changed at the begining of the year that stores can be open as they please(Stores couldn’t be open after 18:00 on Saturday, unless it was small store), the parking lot of S-market at Porvoo was out of question since that store is now open till 23:00 everyday and enthustiasts don’t want to bother paying customers and the store by gathering there, so gathering place was changed few kilometers away, closer to E18 highway. There is plenty of room for cars and also a good place to burn those rubbers.
Yesterday there was a scenery cruising around lake Lohjanjärvi. We were bit late from the start and we drove straight to first pitstop, where I set up my gopro and started photographing cars as those arrived on first destination. From there we went to Karjalohja for second pitstop.
This was the 10th anniversary cruising, which has grown from few garage mates driving around to 100+ car event, gathering cars and enthusiasts from southern Finland. It’s not unheard that people has driven few hundred kilometers to participate this event.
As we weren’t with our El Camino, but our Jag(just a x-type), we didn’t feel like travelling whole distance. So, here is the photo gallery..
Is this just a Finnish thing or does everybody have these scenery cruises?
I had an opportunity to go to Räyskälä Vintage Drags in a team bus as one friend from the garage where my El Camino is, was going to Räyskälä Vintage Drags to drag race his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. He has had that since late 1970s and when drag racing landed on Finland, Räyskälä Airfield was one of the first place where you could drag race. We borrowed Hollow Head Drag team’s team bus where we loaded the Camaro and had a sleeping quarters for five people.
Sun set at Räyskälä Airfield.
First we went to Somero to pick up slick tires and then on to Räyskälä Airfield. We arrived just as the sun was settling in for the night. We took the Camaro out and barbeque grill and set up our camp for the Saturday. We then proceed to have late night dinner and the older guys who had been there back in the days showed us the youngsters the site.
Late night dinner by the team bus at Räyskälä Airfield.
After sun had risen it was time to get some sleep and prepare for the drag racing. After few hours of sleep we started the day. As people was arriving to the airfield I set up the balcony on the top of the bus. From there I got to shoot live video on my youtube channel and got to shoot cars and happening at the airfield.
Cars started to show up at Räyskälä Airfield.
Day was hot and dry half way through and around 14:00 o’clock it started to raining and most people started their cars and started to drove off the airfield. We waited for awhile but as airfield started to get quiet we also packed our team bus and headed for Mustiala Estate for the night and have a party with Do-Dads Reunion party.
Vintage cars at Mustiala estate.
On Sunday I took a little stroll around Mustiala estate and shoot some of the cars that were there for the Kustom Life Outdoor Show. But we had to leave before the show started so I didn’t get to shoot that many cars.
